All’Origine is a sculptural installation that explores intimacy through physical closeness and shared orientation, developed through an extended process of making and refinement. Designed by Sade Linda Ekwedike, the work translates a personal mother–daughter relationship into a physical structure that others can enter and experience on their own terms.
The piece is built from eight tubular steel elements that can be assembled and disassembled. Its looping form echoes the proportions and relationship between the uterus and ovaries, using circular geometry to speak about origin, connection, and repetition.
Designed to exist within a domestic environment, the structure accommodates standard seating and positions two people back to back. Rather than facing each other directly, participants are connected through touch and indirect sightlines. Mirrors placed at either end allow each person to see the other through reflection, acting as a filter for exchange.
The work creates a situation where proximity and distance are held at the same time, slowing down interaction and making the body aware of posture, pressure, and presence. This sensitivity is also embedded in the way the work is made. The making process remains visible throughout the work. Bent steel, welded joints, and softened edges emphasise time, labour, and care. All’Origine does not attempt to resolve tension or offer instruction. Instead, it provides a physical framework for sitting together, beginning again, and allowing conversation to unfold gradually.
